The 5th event of the year hits National Trail Raceway hard!

The end of July means it’s time for the 5th Super Chevy Event of 2017; National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio. The big event Friday was the test-and-tune action at the drag strip. At the Super Chevy Shows any GM powered car or truck can compete, which means you never know what you’ll see in the pits. Yep, LS and Chevy powered Mopars, Mustangs and even the occasional AMX are intermixed with the GM rides, which adds a nice variety. Besides, putting a Chevy engine in a Ford is the easiest way to make it actually fast.
There’s a ton of drag classes for drivers to compete in and there’s a pretty good chunk of prize money up for grabs. Of course the hard part is working your way through the ladders and landing the number one spot. Hey, if it was easy what would be the fun?
In addition to the drag racing action there’s a huge car show, swap meet, and vendor’s midway to check out. There will also be wheelie and jet car exhibition runs for the hundreds of spectators expected to show up. Despite warnings of rain the weather has been great.
So what is the Super Chevy Show? Well, if you’re a Chevy fan it’s an event you don’t want to miss! The next Super Chevy show, the 6th of 8 shows this year, will take place August 19-20st at Maryland International Raceway in Mechanicsville, MD and, as always, it will have a car show, drag racing, exhibition cars, and a swap meet. Born and raised in Southern California I started as the technical editor for Popular Hot Rodding (PHR) magazine where I learned the business before moving over to work with Nick Licata, at Camaro Performers, as his tech editor. At PHR I built a 1968 Camaro called Bad Penny that was one of the earlier pro-touring cars that actually ran the track hard. We won the first Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational in 2008 and placed well several other years. At Camaro Performers we started several project cars and did a ton of tech. Eventually I was made editor of Vette magazine for a short time before being slotted to run Super Chevy magazine. Running the brands was fun, but I've always enjoyed being a technical writer more. So after more than 15 years I'm back to writing tech content, this time for the HOT ROD network. I enjoy being with my family, shooting, and working on my latest car, a 1969 Camaro called Tri Tip.
