Winters are long and hard in the Midwest, but the spring edition of Chevy/VetteFest is always a welcome relief from the snow and cold. During the annual weekend event, 300 cars and more than 40,000 fans filled Chicago's McCormick Place Exposition Center for a look at what was new for the 2004 season. For some owners, it was a chance to show those projects they had worked on over the winter for the first time. For others, the show was a good excuse to get their Chevys out of storage and into a warm atmosphere.
Bow-Tie Boulevard plaques were handed out to 75 custom and race Chevys that exhibited outstanding quality. In addition, there was the Gold Spinner Concourse, in which restored or original Chevrolets must be judged to be within 95 percent of factory delivered condition to earn the coveted award. From a '57 Bel Air to a '02 Corvette, 20 automobiles earned the Gold Spinner. Just four Top Gun cash awards went to the best of Vettefest.
The twice-a-year Chevy/Vettefest returns to the McCormick Place Exposition Center during the third weekend in November. Just in time to warm up to winter.
