It's been a few years since we were in the Pacific Northwest, and we were just as pleased to be back as the Chevy fans were. Not only did we meet charming people, we got to see cars from a part of the country we haven't explored in way too long.
One of the best stories we heard was from Jerry Matheson of Renton, Washington. About eight years ago, when Jerry first brought his project car home, a '56 210 two-door, he gave his brother and neighbor a ride. Then, he started taking the car apart, without first offering wife Marnie a ride. She asked for a ride, not knowing the car was now in pieces, and expressed her disappointment when she couldn't have one. Jerry made sure not to forget that Marnie needed a ride. He aimed for this Valentine's Day, but the car wasn't finished. So he moved a TV and VCR to his shop, placed the nearly completed car in front of it, rented a copy of American Graffiti, stocked the cooler with champagne, popped some popcorn, and invited Marnie to the "drive-in." The '56 didn't have windows and didn't run yet, but Jerry did push it a few feet to provide a "ride." Romance is apparently not dead in the Matheson household. The car is now finished and came to the show where it earned an Editor's Choice award.
Howard Lenington, Yakima, WA, enjoys his '57 Bel Air ragtop at the show or on the road. Now he gets to enjoy an Editor's Choice Top Ten Show Car award.

If your name is McCool (Steve, that is, from Bothell, WA) and you have a fine custom '50 Chevy, you've just got to take home the Outstanding Custom Rod award from Custom Rodder magazine. |
Bob Jennings of Issaquah, WA (we have no idea how to pronounce it either), brought this excellent '63 split-window. It took an Editor's Choice Top Ten Show Car award. |

When you get this close to the Canadian border, you get to see unusual cars. Dave Chapman of White Rock, British Columbia, introduced us to his '67 Acadian. Resto parts for these must be tough, but Chapman's car was well done and took an Editor's Choice Top Ten Show Car award. | |
