There is actually a place called Toad Suck, and we did stay overnight in the hometown of Garth Brooks. We even found ourselves "on a corner in Winslow, Arizona." We went through all of this by trailering the Goodmark Chevelle to the Memphis Super Chevy Show where it was left in the caring hands of the Goodmark folks, who will take it to several upcoming Super Chevy Shows. Having that Chevelle on an open trailer for 2,000 miles garnered us lots of friends. Everyone we saw on the road, whether they had seen it in SUPER CHEVY magazine or were just looking at it for the first time, wanted to take a picture of the car. Once at the Memphis Show it was the most looked at, admired, and photographed car on the grounds.
Memphis is a Super Chevy Show that should be on every car lover's list of places to visit. It's absolutely packed with the greatest show-quality Chevys from about 10 states, and the racing is non-stop and furious. The Memphis race fans pack the stands on both sides of the strip for the Pro Show, and they stay there for all the other races, too. It's a track where the spectators are nearly as close to the action as the photographers with their cool "all access" passes, so all the sights and sounds come through loud and clear.
We still haven't figured out what makes the Memphis swap meet and car corral so huge, but it rivals Indy-and that's saying a lot! It parallels the drag strip and goes beyond the quarter-mile mark, and that's three rows wide. Whatever a Chevy builder wanted, it had to be at Memphis.
